Our History
For over 25 years, the growth and impact of this Christ-centered organization has been a collaborative effort of concerned Christians of all backgrounds throughout the New River Valley. Every day , the Pregnancy Resource Center of the New River Valley ‘s staff and volunteers have the privilege of sharing the love and message of Christ in both word and deed.
In 1983 a small group of visionary Christians from Blacksburg and Christiansburg met on a regular basis to pray and plan for a positive and life affirming agency to serve women in crisis pregnancies.- On April 4, 1985, the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the New River Valley was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
- In 1992, the name was changed to the Caring Pregnancy Center of the New River Valley to better reflect it’s core Christian values of care and compassion.
- In 1999, the Caring Pregnancy Center of the New River Valley became one of the first centers in the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer free medical services such as pregnancy tests and limited obstetrical ultrasounds in addition to pregnancy options counseling, pre-natal and parenting classes, baby and mother material needs assistance and Christian ministry.
- On May 1, 2009, the center’s name was changed to the Pregnancy Resource Center of the New River Valley to better communicate to potential abortion minded or abortion vulnerable clients the mission, purpose, and services of the agency in a positive and informative manner.
- In 2009, the Pregnancy Resouce Center of the New River Valley expanded it’s ministry and outreach to men by providing a state of the art information center focused on their needs and concerns, a counseling/mentoring program in the areas of Biblical manhood and fatherhood, and an outreach to New River Valley Christian churches to provide ongoing support and ministry to clients at the local level.
- Also in 2009, the Board of Directors made a committment to provide limited STI screening to appropriate clients in cooperation with the Montgomery County Department of Health.
- In 2010 we have implemented a linear services medical model for our medical clinic and made improvements and enhancements to our Abortion Recovery and Sexual Integrity Programs.
It is our calling during this critical time in the history of our country and community to provide compassionate care, medical services, practical help, and accurate information to women and men facing unexpected or unintended pregnancies or past abortions. TheĀ center also promotes and teaches sexual purity and premarital abstinence and desires above all else to draw people unto the Lord Jesus Christ and to bring to our Father in Heaven all glory and honor.
